THE RULES THIS ENGINE KNOWS
Castling
King moves two squares toward a rook that has not moved,
provided the squares between are empty and the king is not in, through, or into check.
En passant
A pawn that jumps two squares past an enemy pawn may be
captured as if it had moved one — but only on the very next move.
Promotion
A pawn reaching the far rank becomes a queen, rook, bishop or knight.
Checkmate
King attacked with no legal escape. The game is won.
Stalemate
No legal move but not in check. Draw.
Fifty-move rule
Fifty moves by each side with no capture and no pawn move. Draw.
Threefold repetition
The same position, with the same rights, three times. Draw.
Insufficient material
Neither side has enough pieces to mate. Draw.
DIFFICULTY
NOVICE
Looks one move ahead, ignores what happens after a trade,
and plays loosely on purpose. Beatable.
CASUAL
Two moves ahead with a capture search. Punishes free pieces.
CLUB
Searches as deep as it can in 400 ms. Sees short tactics.
MASTER
1.2 s of search. Expect to be punished for loose pieces.
SCORING
Captures are worth their piece value, a win is +10 and a draw +3.
